Be breastfeeding-friendly

Mothers who breastfeed often worry that when they leave the house they will probably need to feed their baby at some point but are unsure if this will mean they will be moved on and thereby humiliated. As breastfeeding clearly has many health benefits over bottle feeding most mothers will choose to prioritise their baby's health over what some people may think. This is why this user-friendly searchable database has been created. From deciding where they will eat to where they will shop, the database lists every place throughout Birmingham that has agreed to be Breastfeeding Friendly. Mothers can decide where they feel comfortable spending their time and money in areas that they know to be friendly to families. By clicking on the name of a particular place they can bring up all kinds of information on it including where it is, how to contact it, and even reviews of what it is like.

So What Does it Mean to be Breastfeeding Friendly?

If a mother finds your venue If a mother finds your venue on the database - be it a shop, restaurant, gallery or any other type, they will know it is somewhere that they will feel welcome to visit.

To be eligible to be on the database a venue must agree that a mother has the right to breastfeed her child if the need arises. They must never be stopped from doing this, asked to leave, or made to feel embarrassed. Importantly, in rare cases where a complaint is made about her feeding her baby the venue must always come down on the side of the mother.

Once this is agreed to the venue is inserted onto the database and becomes available for the public to search. Across a small random section of the database, mystery shoppers will be sent out to ensure that a venues claim to being breastfeeding friendly is real and not just an attempt to enjoy the free advertising. The penalty for this is instant removal from the database.
